A futures prop firm evaluation is usually a simulated trading challenge with a defined profit target and risk limits. You pay a fee to participate. Meeting the target is only one part of passing: you must also comply with every applicable rule.
The typical sequence
- Choose an evaluation type and account size.
- Pay the evaluation fee and connect through a supported platform.
- Trade while staying within daily, overall and behavioural limits.
- Meet the profit target and any minimum-day requirement.
- Complete the firm’s review and any activation steps.
- Trade under the rules of the funded or performance account.
- Request a payout when eligible.
This sequence is only a general model. A firm may use one step, several steps or a different account structure.
The fee is at risk
An evaluation fee is a cost, not a deposit into your own brokerage account. If you breach a rule or do not complete the evaluation, you may lose the fee and need to pay again for another attempt.
Passing is not the final rule check
Funded-stage rules may differ from evaluation rules. Confirm the drawdown method, consistency requirements, prohibited conduct and payout conditions for every stage.
A practical comparison habit
Compare the total realistic cost—not just the advertised entry price. Include recurring evaluation fees, activation charges, data or platform fees and the cost of resets you might actually use.
